Lessons from the Snow

Children love it, travellers hate it.  To some it means snowmen, snowballs and fun.  To others it means cancelled trains, slippery roads and accidents.

God once said to one of his servants,  ‘Have you entered into the treasures of the snow?’ (Job, chapter 38, verse 22).  Each snowflake is made up of many tiny ice-crystals.  Every crystal is different.  Each has a beautiful shape.

In some respects we are like the snow.  Our great God created man perfect, in His own image (Genesis, chapter 2, verses 26 and 27).  It isn’t surprising that the Psalmist worshipped God, saying ‘I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful.’ (Psalm 138, verse 14).

When we crush the snow under our feet and when the thaw turns it to a muddy slush, the beauty of the crystals is lost.  Similarly, Adam, the first man, lost perfection when he rebelled against God.  His sin brought ruin to all mankind.  The God-created perfection is spoiled by our selfishness, pride and hatred.  Our sin separates us from God.

The Lord Jesus Christ came to restore the lost perfection to men’s lives.  He washes out the ugliness of sin and re-unites us to God.

How?

His cruel death was no accident.  God gave His Son as a sacrifice for sin.  The apostle Paul wrote, ‘Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, was raised the third day’ (1 Corinthians, chapter 15, verses 3 and 4).

If you want to know peace with God you must ask the Lord Jesus to save you from your sin and to be your Lord and Saviour.
