Rain, without it we would have no water at all

I saw the words ‘Water is Life’ on a van recently and thought, “what a true statement!”  Without water we would not be alive.  We cannot survive without water for more than three days.  Our water comes in the form of rain.  Wells, springs and reservoirs are all supplied by rain.  Without rain we would have no water at all.

We cannot make it rain.  People talk of a rain dance but this cannot make it rain.  Rain is given by God.  It says in the Bible, Acts 14:17, “He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness”.

Having rain leads to having fruitful seasons (harvest) and that in turn means we have food to eat. This time of the year it is encouraging to know that the harvest is gathered in, which means there is food for us for the year ahead.  As Christians, we hold a harvest thanksgiving service to acknowledge God’s goodness in giving us plenty of rain and sunshine which guarantees we have plenty of harvest and food.  The rain also gives us clean water to drink.

God did more than satisfy our need for food and drink.  He also provided for and satisfied our spiritual need which is far more important.  He did this by sending his Son Jesus Christ, who died on the cross to pay for all the things we have done wrong.  It says in another part of the Bible, Romans 5:8, “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Now that our sins have been paid for, Jesus invites us to come to Him and put our trust in Him.  If you repent of your sins and put your trust in Jesus, He will forgive you all your sins.  He will give you a new life and you will know peace of heart and mind.  Not only that, He will give you hope of everlasting life in heaven.
